After Care

Polished, un-lacquered bronze

Polished and uncoated bronze will patina over time. The patina that develops depends on the alloy of bronze. The patina is stabilised using a wax finish that will be provided in your maintenance kit.

General cleaning should be carried out with a soft cloth, using a mild soap. Do not use bleach or harsh cleaning chemicals or abrasives such as scotch brite or brillo pads.

Dry surface with a soft cloth and do not let water sit on the surface as this may leave water marks.

If water marks are visible on the dried piece you can use dilute white wine vinegar with equal amounts of water, as a second treatment. Use the solution to clean the surface and then dry with a soft cloth.

Apply wax to freshly cleaned and dried surface, working it into the bronze until streak free.

If the patina gets too dark for your liking you may want to use a gentle metal polish on the surface to bring back the original lustre. This should be done sparingly. Once done the piece should be cleaned thoroughly with isopropyl alcohol to remove any residue and then finished with the finishing wax. N.B. This should only be carried out to a polished piece, that has a wax finish. if your piece has any other patina or finish applied it will cause damage to the finish and may need to be professionally re-applied. Make sure to not get any polishing compound on glass surfaces as this may cause clouding.

patinated, un-lacquered bronze

Do not use any chemical or cleaning products on this, it will cause changes to the surface patina. You my use a soft brush on the surface to remove dust and surface grime. You may also want to apply wax from your care kit once a year.

Lacquered bronze

We can finish the piece with a clear coat of furniture lacquer. This stabilises the finish and maintains it indefinitely.

If a piece is lacquered you will only need to clean the piece with a soft damp cloth, using a mild soap. The piece can then be dried. Do not scrub the surface or use any abrasive chemicals or pads. This will scratch the surface and leave cloudy marks that will need to be removed professionally.
